Iain Duncan Smith MP to do photo shoot

Iain Duncan Smith MP is to do a photo shoot in support of the campaign to keep open King George Hospital A&E and maternity units on Friday 23rd November at 11am outside Ilford Town Hall.

It would be helpful if we could could get 40 or so people there to support Iain on the day. If you cannot make it please pass the message on to friends and family.

Many thanks to Iain for helping the campaign and to Helen Zammett for organising the photo shoot

High Street Christmas Lights Switch On: 22 Nov 2012

We don’t have a poster or flyer for this event so we are at present unable to confirm the details. Posters and flyers have been delivered to High Street Traders and there is, apparently, an advert in last weeks Ilford Recorder but unfortunately that is not on-line yet.

However, according to the Twitter account of Toby the Toymaster at Toyology in the High Street there will be:

Santa Claus and a real live Reindeer (bring a bucket)
The Salvation Army Band
The Kenneth More Theatre Panto Players
A Red Carpet Doggie Fashion show
Hot Food Stalls
Charity Stalls
A Surprise celebrity guest & so much more?
Culminating of course with the switch on of the High Street Christmas Lights.

We don’t know where in the High Street this event is to take place or what time, but if previous years are anything to go by we expect it to be located on the square somewhere between the Library and Redbridge Council’s one and only Swimming Pool.

We expect the event to commence at about 2pm with the lights switch-on after dark, and after the children are out of school, at about 4:30pm – 5:00pm.

Introduction to Forest Gardening Workshop: 18 Nov 2013

As the days get shorter and crisper, the community garden is still a hive of activity. We’re looking forward to the final workshop of our Orchard Skills programme and are very excited to have Graham Burnett, a leading UK permaculturalist, leading the workshop.

Introduction to Forest Gardening Workshop
Sunday 18th November, 10am - 4pm
Free of charge, RSVP essential

We are pleased to announce that the well known and expert permaculture teacher Graham Burnett will be leading a free, day-long workshop on forest gardening at Forest Farm Peace Garden on the 18th November.

Forest gardening is a cutting-edge food growing system which replicates woodland ecosystems to create a sustainable, low maintenance and high yield garden producing fruit, nuts and vegetables. The workshop will provide an engaging introduction to forest gardens through theory and activities, with plenty of opportunities to get stuck into designing and planting a forest garden on our beautiful two acre site.

The course is free of charge, but booking is necessary. Please email with your name, email address and the borough you live in to reserve a place.

Attendees should wear clothing suitable for working outdoors and bring a packed lunch. Herbal tea from the Garden will be provided.

Thanks to all of you who supported our opening Acoustic Zone night at the RAFA club last Friday. Everyone there told us how much they enjoyed Playing Rapunzel and Mike 'Dr Blue' McKeon, and the venue. We'll be back there on 30 November with two more excellent acts, The Raven and Nick Pickett, and that will become our regular second venue every month!

Meanwhile our next session at Ilford Sports Club on Friday 9 November features three more great acoustic acts:
Robin Grey's last visit to the club as a support act drew such a positive reaction from the audience that we just had to have him back as our headline act. His songs, his voice, his accompanying musicians and his whole presentation should not be missed. We look forward to hearing a selection from his first three albums, and hope to hear news of a new cd too. You may have caught his lovely performance at the re-opening of Ilford Library back in July too, but if you haven't seen him yet this will be a real treat.
Peppercorn Rent promise to be a really interesting addition to our club guest list. With 6 musicians and a tempting selection of acoustic instruments including guitar, violin, melodeon, trumpet, sax and voices, and the offer of an alt country, rock, blues & folk set, we can't wait to see them perform for the first time at one of our events!
Ryan Green's accomplished sets of pop and rock covers continually earn him more fans, and he proved to be one of the most popular performers during the 15 day Active Ilford live music sessions in Ilford Town Centre during the Olympic summer, as well as many other summer festivals.

So, you know what we're about - high quality live music in a friendly atmosphere for a very modest admission price - don't miss this great evening of entertainment. Look forward to seeing you. Please forward the attached flyer to your friends and contacts.
Best wishes
Steve Collins & Chris Wyatt
