Archikids Festival: 18-19 May 2013

Time to Release the Chickens! Get On your Scooter! And walk the Hatwalk Catwalk!

Open-City launches the activity programme of Archikids Festival 2013 - London’s free festival of architecture for families - taking place on 18 & 19 May 2013. Come & Join us!

With over 50 fun and free activities the festival programme is packed with workshops, explorations, and trails in iconic buildings and public spaces, from skyline views at One New Change roof terrace to the Roman Amphitheatre ruins beneath Guildhall Art Gallery.

Highlights of 2013 include:
  • Chicken City – Design and Weave a chicken coop and then Release the Chickens!
  • On your Scooter! – Discover the city on two wheels, Zooooom!!
  • The Urban Jungle – Camouflaged for the city: elephants, penguins and giraffes?
  • Hatwalk Catwalk – Turning architecture on it’s head! Call to all creative designers and aspiring models!
  • Toodle in the City – Photographic treasure hunt for the little ones ages 2-6.
  • Sky Scraper Sketching – Join the growing city sketch upon the roof terrace

The weekend festival will turn young people, aged 5-11, into detectives of architecture – Architectives! by exploring great architecture in the City of London’s Square Mile. Architects, artists, engineers, and designers will run these fabulous activities and help us discover the great places and spaces all around the city, where we live, work and play each day!

All activities are free to attend, with no booking required (activities on a first come basis). Simply join us on the weekend and bring all your friends and family!

London Tree Week: 11 to 18 May 2013

Everyone’s invited to come and celebrate London’s trees and woodlands with a week of events from 11-18 May.

Highlights include:

  • An exhibition at City Hall highlighting many of London’s great trees
  • Yarn bombing of trees outside the Garden Museum
  • Walk or cycle the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree Trail
  • Wildlife and Tree tour at Isabella Plantation, Richmond. Park, 11am-5.30pm. Courtesy of RSPB London (excluding Sunday 12 May)
  • Walk in the woods events from The Tree Council
  • Better Bankside will host a forest foray around Bankside Urban Forest and has some great prizes for its photography competition and tree quiz
