Hedgehogs in Redbridge: 29 Jan 2014

Hedgehogs were voted as the nation’s favourite wild animal this year, but did you know that their numbers are in serious decline? If you would like to help these prickly guys, why not sign up to become a Hedgehog Champion through Hedgehog Street. For more information about becoming a champion or if you would like to know how to make your garden or local area better for hedgehogs please click on this link: http://www.hedgehogstreet.org/

We are lucky enough to have hedgehog expert Henry Johnson join us for a talk on the 29th of January at Valentines Mansion (7.30-8.30pm). So if you would like to learn more about these fascinating creatures or if you have any questions regarding hedgehogs please do come along! The cost of the talk is £3 per person and booking is required.

The Hidden World of Britain's Immigrants: 8 Jan 2014

9:30pm - 10:30pm BBC Two
Wednesday 8th January 2014

This documentary was made with the help of RAMFEL, who are based in Ilford, Redbridge and whose Rita Chadha came to talk to us at our coffee morning last September.
Documentary following Fergal Keane as he uncovers the realities of life for some of Britain's estimated 600,000 illegal immigrants. In Ilford, east London, the journalist meets Shanki, a native Indian who, having outstayed the duration of his tourist visa, continued to work illegally and now finds himself embroiled in gang life and sleeping rough on the streets. He also encounters a Lithuanian couple struggling to find proper shelter as they recover from heroin addiction, and a man who faces an uphill struggle to return to his homeland.
