Friends of Wanstead Parklands: 26 Feb 2014

Annual General Meeting

The Friends' AGM this year will be taking place on Wednesday 26 February at Wanstead Golf Club, Overton Drive, E11 2LW, commencing 7:30.

The business part of the meeting, which is expected to take less than half an hour, will be followed by a guest speaker. This year professional photographer Geoff Wilkinson, of the Eightyfour Gallery in Nightingale Lane, will be talking about photography in Wanstead Park, using images from the group's last photographic competition as examples. Geoff is well-known locally: as well as running his gallery he teaches photography and has a regular feature on the Wansteadium website.

In addition to Geoff's talk, a new book by committee member Richard Arnopp will be launched at the meeting. Entitled "Wanstead and its Park", it is a new edition of an Edwardian classic by Oliver S Dawson, with contemporary photographs and other illustrations. The book also includes a fascinating newly-researched account of Dawson's life as well as comprehensive notes on his text.

Playing Rapunzel at Cricklefields: 21 Feb 2014

Our favourite female folk duo return to Ilford Sports Club this Friday to head a great triple bill!....and with that stork hovering over the gooseberry bush this may be your last chance to catch their exquisite performance for a while! Expect imaginative songs, beautiful harmonies and brilliant musicianship on a variety of instruments.
....and that's not all! Completing another excellent line-up we have captured two exciting new acts featuring old friends of the club. Al Neville & Rachel Eyres from the Spangles Gang have created a great mix of original songs and other material that demonstrate their individual talents in a compelling duo format.
We are also delighted to welcome Sarah Bailey from the popular teen band Dilemma for her first solo performance for us.

Now, be honest, where else can you get such a high-quality top-value live music evening in Ilford or anywhere remotely nearby? Hope to see you there. Be there by 8pm and you won't miss a minute! Details below.

Best wishes

Women’s Interfaith Workshop:

An interfaith perspective of what happens after we die

Interfaith women workshops are held to enable women of all ages and from different faith backgrounds to meet together and discuss topics that really matter to them. We have discussed many topics over the past 2 years– and forged new friendships and understanding. The topic for this workshop resulted from questions which arose during our previous workshop Please come and join in the discussion and help plan our future events. As the discussion on this topic promises to be so animated, with so many people having thoughts we will not have our usual presentation on a specific faith.
Getting there by public transport: travelling from Ilford take bus 179, a light stop E or D next to South Woodford Tube station. You have arrived. The Mosque is very nearby, opposite the dry cleaners.
