31 Jul - 2 Aug 2014: The Hunters Grimm

Teatro Vivo
in association with
The Watermill Theatre in Newbury,
and The Albany in Deptford.
Present
THE HUNTERS GRIMM
at
Valentines Mansion Gardens
Redbridge
31st July - 2nd August
A new promenade performance for all the family

The Brothers Grimm are looking for a story – a particular story that will save one of their lives. And in Redbridge this summer they will need the help of every resident to capture the stories in Valentines Mansion Gardens before they escape out onto the streets.

Audiences will experience interactive stories as they travel in groups around the park, finding magic hiding behind every bush and water sprinkler.

They will meet an anarchic frog, comfort a desperate prince, dance with the musicians of Bremen and talk to a very unusual sausage..

Internationally acclaimed site-specific theatre company Teatro Vivo bring their exciting and exuberant work to Redbridge for the first time, and will be presenting the world premiere of their new piece to young and old alike.

There will also be a local community chorus involved in the show, and you are invited to get involved with the production in this way too (see http://www.teatrovivo.co.uk/get-involved/ for more information).

Teatro Vivo transforms much loved stories into theatrical adventures; collaborating with communities and audiences to turn everyday environments into magical worlds.

20 Jul 2014: Open Day at Dagenham Farm

Farmer Event: Dagenham Farm
Sunday 20th July 2014 -11am – 4pm
Central Park Nursery, Rainham Road North,
Dagenham, RM10 7EJ

Here's your chance to visit one of the local farms that supplies the produce in the Organic Ilford veg bags!

"It’s been two years since the Dagenham Farm got going – two years of clearing concrete, skinning polytunnels, building raised beds, planting, watering, harvesting (5 tonnes of produce in the first 18 months!), training apprentices, welcoming volunteers and introducing school and community groups to urban organic growing.

To celebrate, we're having an Open Day at the farm on Sunday 20th July from 11am till 4pm. There will be lots to see and buy – we're hoping the first tomatoes will be ready to try, as well as beans, salad and more.

Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic and come along to see all the amazing work that has been going on at the farm – and spot the produce that will end up in your fruit and veg bags in the coming months!"

19 Jul 2014: London Squares Walk

Date: Saturday 19 July 11am
Venue: Bond Street Tube Station, London, W1C 2JS

Classy but laid back, tranquil but bustling; each of London’s squares and public spaces has a rich story to tell that echoes the incredible diversity of the history of this great city.

This weekend we invite you to join us on a walk of discovery through the byways of West-end London, exploring a number of famous public spaces and learning about the great estates and hidden histories of these great places.

During the casual two hour walk we shall be passing through the graceful and tranquil streets of Mayfair, Soho, St Giles and Bloomsbury, avoiding the bustle of the main roads. You will find out how these areas came to be, and how some places were rigorously planned and how others grew piecemeal. You’ll be amazed with what you find! We’ll be departing from Bond Street Tube Station.

Places on this walk are limited, so please register if you would like to come along or bring anyone with you, please contact events@sustrans.org.uk. Your place and further details will be confirmed via email.

11 Jul 2014: Chasing Ice

Chasing Ice: Free Screening and Discussion
Friday, July 11, 2014 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

A chillingly beautiful depiction of the harsh yet fragile world of Arctic icescapes in the throes of rapid climate change, as seen through the enquiring eye of photographer/film maker James Balog. Mr. Balog makes the journey from climate change sceptic to climate aware, not through the persuasions of any scientific argument, but via his own observations on site in the Arctic. This man could have been you or me: it is the film’s emphasis on the totally personal aspect of Balog’s discovery, together with his subsequent change of viewpoint which sets this award-winning documentary apart.

Doors open at 6.30 for refreshments. The film will start at 7pm, followed by a discussion.

This screening is one of the Leytonstone Festival events and is supported by the Leytonstone Festival Association.
