6 Mar 2015: (Fake) Fur Coats & Flowery Shirts

(Fake) Fur Coats and Flowery Shirts – the Second TTR Summit

This year, Transition Town Redbridge will be joining Wanstead & Woodford Friends of the Earth for the (Fake) Fur Coats and Flowery Shirts Film Night
at: 6pm (to 9.30pm)
on Friday 6th March 2015
at Wanstead Library’s Churchill Room.

The event, which coincides with Climate Change Week (March 2nd – 8th) will bring together people who care about local and global environmental, sustainability and community ideas and issues and will include a facilitated activity to introduce and discuss the future plans for Transition Town Redbridge.

Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, inspiring a new wave of action to create a sustainable future. We will be staging a free screening of the 2014 documentary Thule Tuvalu, which makes a strong comparison between the lives of the inhabitants of Thule, Greenland, with those of the South Pacific island of Tuvalu. Although thousands of miles apart, these 2 very different communities are beginning to be deeply affected by the alterations in their physical geography wrought by climate change.

In Thule, it’s the melting ice cap and the lack of hunting opportunities in winter; in Tuvalu, it’s the
salinisation and gradual submergence of their land by rising sea levels.

If you dare (and we hope you do), please adopt the following dress code in honour of the protagonists in Thule Tuvalu: (Fake) Fur Coats and Flowery Shirts. There may be a prize (sustainable) for the most imaginative costume!

Before the screening, we will be giving a brief overview of Transition in general, and a more detailed introduction to your local Transition Town, Redbridge. We will be developing ideas with Climate Week attendees to help shape the future of the group. Participants will have the opportunity to promote their local projects and to suggest items for next year’s action plan.

Bookings can be made at via the internet or turn up on the day.
