24 Apr 2016: Annual "Tomorrows" Charity Day at Oakfield

Oakfield - 6th Annual "Tomorrows" Charity Day
- Sunday, 24th April
Entertainment

There will be an all-comers 5 a side football tournament and two limited overs cricket games (a competitive National Cricket League match and one between local rivals Oakfield Parkonians CC and Hainault & Clayhall CC). Football and cricket will be under way by 2pm. We estimate that the football will finish around 6pm and the cricket will finish an hour or so later.

There will be bouncy castles and a bouncy assault course for the children, a face painter, BBQ, an ice cream van and a DJ throughout the afternoon. There will also be a Gladiator Duel bouncy area if the adults fancy trying their skills!

St. Johns Ambulance medics will be present throughout the day.

People will be most welcome to use the pavilion and bar for refreshments throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Please feel free to stay for as long as you wish.

“Tomorrows” charity

As much as this is a day for fun, it is also a fundraiser for “Tomorrows” charity. This was founded in 2010 by Tim Cross to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. 100% of all proceeds will be donated to try and find a cure for this debilitating disease.

There will be a raffle and silent auction to raise much needed funds for the charity.

As founder of the charity, Tim (an Old Parkonian) will be handing over a cheque on the day for £50,000 to the CF Trust. This will be used to further their research into gene therapy to seek a cure this terrible life shortening illness.

Donations can be made by going to www.moretomorrows.com and clicking the 'Make a Donation' box at the bottom of the page.

Please do come and indeed bring as many people as you can to support the ocassion. It will be a good inclusive family day out as it has been every year. We are sure that your families will be delighted, entertained and impressed by the activities and in support of a good cause too!

Warm Regards,
Chris Nutt
for the Save Oakfield Society
and Old Parkonians Association

21 Apr 2016: What has the EU ever done for us?

What has the EU done for the UK's environment? London event

Thursday, April 21 at 7:00 PM

B5 Auditorium, Franklin-Wilkins Building, King's College - 150 Stamford St, London SE1 9NH

Join Friends of the Earth and Environmentalists for Europe at their free event: "What has the EU done for the UK's environment?"

On 23 June the UK will vote on whether to remain a member of the European Union.

What impact will the EU referendum have on our environment?

We'll be debating that very question at our event – expect an engaging discussion with our keynote speakers:

• Caroline Lucas - Green Party MP
• Stanley Johnson - Co-chair of Environmentalists for Europe and former Conservative MEP
• Craig Bennett - Friends of the Earth CEO

And more to be confirmed

We’ll be chewing over this sort of stuff:

• What has the EU done for the UK environment?
• What are the environmental arguments for staying in the EU?
• How does the EU need to change to become fairer and more accountable to better protect people and the environment?

This event is free and open to all but pre-registration is required. Register here

Friends of the Earth (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) is in favour of the UK remaining a member of the EU. See below for our reasons for taking this position.

https://www.foe.co.uk/page/eu-referendum

We look forward to seeing you there.
