14 Oct 2017: Save KGH A&E March and Rally

Save KGH A&E March and Rally

Saturday 14th October 2017
Assembly 11:30am at Dagenham Central Park
Rally 3:00pm at Redbridge Town Hall

Councillors Athwal and Rodwell, the Leaders of Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham Councils will lead a march from Dagenham Central via Queens Hospital to Redbridge Town Hall on 14th October calling on Mr Hunt, the Secretary of State for Health, to review the plan to close King George A&E in 2019 due to the expanding North East London population.

This is the first time that all three councils have called for a review of the plan to close King George A&E and is a big advance for the campaign to keep King George A&E open.

The campaign team is asking residents to support the call for a review by assembling at Dagenham Central Park from 11:30am on Saturday 14th October to hear speeches and to start walking at 12:15 on to Redbridge Town Hall for a rally at 3pm.

Our senior politicians need public support to show Mr Hunt that there is a mass support for King George A&E to stay open. Local trade unions are organising a professional filming of the march with the aim of footage being used by TV stations.

If you cannot manage the walk, the 128 bus runs from Queens Hospital to Iltord Town Centre.

Spread the word to friends and family and help build the turn out on October 14th

28 Sep 2017: Bat Walks in Redbridge Parks

September’s nearly upon us, the nights are drawing in which means it’s time for our annual programme of bat walks. It’s a great way to learn all about these marvellous little animals, which have unfairly gained a bad reputation. Rather than sucking blood did you know that all British bats eat insects? One of our most common bats, a pipistrelle, can eat over 3000 mosquitoes in one night!

During the walks you’ll get a chance to use our bat detectors so you can hear the bats echo-locate. We’re normally lucky enough to spot them feeding around the park lakes too. Walks last around 1 hour and cost £3 per person. Suitable for 7 years+.

Booking essential as places are limited, meeting point will be given at time of booking. Contact details below.

15 Jul 2017: Give & Take at Orchard Community Festival

Give and Take Days
With Amey & Redbridge Council

A Give and Take day is a waste exchange or swap event; a chance to get rid of things you don’t need any more and pick up something you do need.
ALL FOR FREE!

Our very first Give and Take event in the Central library was a great success and inspired us to work in a partnership to offer our residents a regular venue.

Our next tranche of Give and Take days will be held on the following dates:

Saturday 15th July 2017: 12:00noon - 4:00pm
Orchard Community Festival, 152 Broadmead Road, Woodford Green, IG8 0AG
Donations will be accepted until 2 pm.

Please bring along books, CDs, DVDs, sportswear, bric-a-brac, clean clothes, kitchenware, homeware, toys and games. Unfortunately we are unable to accept bulky items (such as furniture), infant car seats or electrical items. For these items see TCL Reuse.

Since October 2014 ‘Give and Take – Community Swap Shop’ events organised by Amey in partnership with the Redbridge Recycling Team has rehomed 2200kgs of items.

Redbridge residents have had the chance to donate, swap or just take something no longer wanted by another member of our community – all for free.

The events are great fun, save residents money and make local sense out of reducing waste.

If you would like to organize a ‘give and take’ event amongst friends, or in a community group, all you really need to start with is a table or two and a date! You can grow the event as you go along if you find you’d like to.
