19 Jan 2017: Silvertown Explosion - Centenary Exhibition

Marking the 100 year anniversary of the Silvertown Explosion, Eastside Community Heritage have collected oral histories from a variety of people with a connection to the Silvertown Explosion or Silvertown and the surrounding docklands, including those with family members who were residents, firefighters or injured in the explosion and those who have lived in the community for a number of years with many stories about the area and its people.

“We loved Silvertown. I mean it was a little island if you like, it was everybody knew everybody, they had been together as families you know through generations from South Canning Town to Barnwood Court and down to Silvertown so it was a very tight knit community.” – Lyn Brown MP on growing up in Silvertown

The event will take place on the evening of 19th January 2017 from 6-8:30pm in St Luke’s Community Centre, 89 Tarling Road, Canning Town, E16 1HN. Author Graham Hill will present a talk on the explosion alongside the exhibition from Eastside Community heritage showcasing people’s stories, photographs and memorabilia from Silvertown and the explosion.

Please note there will be a 2 minute silence at 6.52 on 19th January 2017 at the launch.
